Brimstone Study Guide
Algat
Returned Witch
Keeper of Records at the Blood Court.
Spends most of her time in the library with her shadow cat Guru. Hasn't been seen since the Evenlight Ball when she was likely returned to her witch state. Fisher reveals that she was expelled from her coven for using blood magic.
Archer
Sprite
Fire sprite working in Fisher's Cahlish manor, very loyal to Fisher.
Is nearly killed by an infected feeder but he fights it to protect Saeris. In doing so, they realize that brimstone kills the infected feeders and the rot.
Arissan
Dragon
Dragon living in Diaxis. Her offspring was killed by Fisher during the Battle of Ajun Gate. She greets Fisher and Saeris when they come through the brimstone portal and demands that he face judgement.
Belikon De Barra
Fae
King of the Yvelian Fae, father to Everlayne. He forced Finran to go through the portals and then had the portals closed - blaming Finran for their closures, so that he could marry Finran's wife (Fisher's mom). He had his wife killed after she failed to give him a son and heir - only giving him a daughter (Layne). Hates Fisher. Part of the Triumvirate, consisting of Malcolm, Belikon, and Madra, who have worked together to make each other as powerful as possible. It is believed that they cannot be killed unless all three are killed, although that may not be true - they believe that Saeris killed Malcolm. Has conscripted all the silver in the land that is found. Continues the war against Sanasroth but refuses to provide the soldiers with food, clothes, or weapons.
Kidnaps Fisher and traps him in a cursed tree so that he will be slowly consumed and Belikon can gain control of Nimerelle. Saeris breaks Fisher out of the tree using his true name. Fisher uses Nimerelle to cut off Belikon's head. It won't kill him, but it will slow him down.
Currently without a head but probably not dead.
Carrion Swift
Mortal
The lost Daianthus heir. The Forgotten King. Son of Rurik and Amelia Daianthus. Wields the god-sword Simon.
Was presumed to be a mortal living in Zilvaren, who had a fling with Saeris. When Kingfisher goes to find Hayden and bring him to the fae world, he accidently brings Carrion, mistakenly believing Carrion smells like Saeris because they are related (it was because of their fling). He helps Saeris to find the solution and is able to merge the quicksilver with other metals. He decides to help rescue Kingfisher but convinces Saeris to make him a quicksilver sword first. When they go into the labyrinth, they are caught by Malcolm, the King of the Vampires. Carrion goads Malcolm into biting him, but instead of turning Carrion into a feeder, it almost kills Malcolm. It weakens Malcolm so much that it allows Saeris to kill him. We find out later that Carrion is not mortal at all! He is the Daianthus heir. When he was a child, Fisher's father Finran had smuggled him into Zilvaren, since he knew that Belikon was up to something sketchy. However, Carrion was trapped in Zilvaren when the portals were closed. He was raised by a slave in Madra's palace named Orlena Parry, whose family knew Carrion's secret and protected in for centuries. Since Carrion's father's blood had been used to create the original blood curse that cursed Malcolm, Malcolm should have died when he drank Carrion's blood. He only survived because he'd become so powerful.
Carrion begins to research the history of Yvelia and its politics. He accompanies Fisher to Zilvaren to find silver and bring Hayden to Yvelia, discovering the Elroy is a protector of a hidden quicksilver pool. He may have magic over plants. Insists that he does not want to challenge Belikon for the Yvelian throne, but seems to be reconsidering when he realizes how the citizens have hoped for his return.
Crave
Unknown
Male living in Diaxis through the brimstone portal. Possibly the brother of Githrand.
He is confused by how Fisher has Nimerelle or the use of shadows.
Danya
Fae
Fae warrior, one of Fisher's wolves who has a real temper problem. Her sword is destroyed by Saeris when Danya tried to attack Fisher, later it was remade with the quicksilver for Danya but chose Lorreth instead, becoming Avisieth. At one point, her hand is cut off as a punishment and she has to see Te Lena to grow it back. She goes with Fisher and Ren to find a witch to help Layne, but nearly screws it up for them.
Helps to lead the warriors in the war camp while the others are occupied. Evacuates the camp when the rot grows and brings the warriors to Cahlish to warn them that the rot is coming quickly. They evacuate all the warriors to the white cliffs, as well as all of Cahlish. She is ashamed that she believed Fisher abandoned them when he was really trapped in Malcolm's maze and cannot forgive herself, so acts angry to everyone else.
Elida
Fae
Fisher's mother who could see visions of the future.
She tied her soul to the world so that she could direct Saeris to find the book that she had written for her. The book explains how to seal Saeris' runes and how to destroy the rot. She also leaves a note that says FIsher's true name.
Deceased, kind of
Elroy
Mortal
Mortal living in Zilvaren, who employed Saeris in his forge for a while. He was in love with Saeris' mother, who used to use Saeris to smuggle in metal from the rebels to Elroy, who would turn it into weapons and smuggle it back. Believes Saeris to still be in Madra's palace and goes to the gates daily to demand her release.
When Carrion and Fisher return to Zilvaren, they find out that Elroy is one in a long line of blacksmiths who have protected the existance of a secret quicksilver pool - hidden below his forge.
Ereth
Vampire
Keeper of the Evenlight in the Blood Court.
A religious zealot who tries to kill Saeris at her coronation but is killed by Fisher instead.
Deceased
Everlayne De Barra
Fae
Fae and daughter of King Belikon of the Yvelian Fae. She is Kingfisher's younger half-sister, they had the same mother. Known as Layne. She helps to heal Saeris and introduces her to the world of the fae, helping her to not make any misteps. She tries to help Saeris investigate the quicksilver before Saeris is taken from the palace. While Saeris and Fisher are gone, Layne is kidnapped by Malcolm, who feeds on her. Fisher goes to Malcolm and rescues Layne, bringing her back to Renfis where Te Lena and Iseabail try to find a cure to the vampire venom. They are able to clear her blood of the venom but Layne has not yet woken.
Still not awake, but the venom has been removed from her system.
Finran
Fae
Kingfisher's father, once wielded Solace. Went against Belikon and was blamed for the portals closing, when it was really Belikon who sent Finran to Zilvaren and closed the portals, trapping Finran in the mortal world. Belikon then married Finran's wife, after declaring him a traitor. Finran knew that Belikon was up to something fishy and took the Daianthus heir through the portal, leaving him in Zilvaren for his own safety, but the heir was trapped when the quicksilver pools were closed.
Presumed dead
Foley Briarstone
Vampire
Newest Lord of MIdnight in the Blood Court, made so by Saeris after he swore fealty to her.
Was once a wolf but was nearly killed by feeders during a battle and was turned by Tal, who later disavowed him. As a vampire, Foley refused to swear fealty to Malcolm or Sanasroth and had his canine teeth removed and replaced with golden ones as punishment. He then lived in the library. Attacked Saeris the first time she came to the library because he believed she had killed Fisher. Later agrees to guard the scorpion Joshin for Fisher. He is not made Fae again when Tal kills most of the Blood Court, and is advised not to take it by Elida. He does go to Cahlish with Saeris afterward and travels with the others to the white cliffs, fighting with his friends again.
Githrand
Unknown
Male living in Diaxis through the brimstone portal. Possibly Crave's brother.
He is confused by how Fisher has Nimerelle or the use of shadows.
Harron
Mortal
Captain of the Guard working in Madra's palace who is commanded to kill Saeris but fails to do so when Saeris pulls Solace out of the ground, is not permitted to die per Madra's ministrations.
Hayden Fane
Mortal
Mortal living in the city of Zilvaren, Saeris' younger brother. When Saeris is taken by Madra's guards, Carrion secretly got Hayden out of the third ward and got him a job in a different ward, where he would be safe from Madra.
Brought to Yvelia with Carrion and Fisher, where he is very out of his depth but wants to stay with his sister.
Hazrax
Unknown
Keeper of Silence at the Blood Court.
It is unknown what kind of creature the Hazrax is, but it made a deal with Malcolm to be able to observe him in exchange for one favor a year. Saeris made the same deal when she became Queen of Sanasroth. The Hazrax gifted her with a rune of undoing which allowed her to free Fisher from anyone using his true name as well as undo the Onyx's death.
Holgoth
Sprite
Earth sprite working in the war camp, who fights with the Yvelian soldiers when needed.
Iseabail
Witch
Witch who agrees to help try to clear the vampire venom from Layne's blood. Her grandmother was High Witch of the Balquhidder Clan, which helped find a cure to the blood curse. Works with Te Lena and is successful, although Layne has not yet woken up. Believes she and Te Lena have found a way to cure Fisher of the quicksilver in his blood.
Works with Tal to poison all of the Blood Court with her blood. She used dark magic to do so, unbeknownst to the rest of the witches, who do not saction the use of dark magic. It either killed or turned the majority of the Blood Court back into Fae. Doing so put Saeris in danger, which angered Fisher.
Khydan Graystar Finvarra
Fae
Fisher's true name.
Kingfisher
Fae
Fae Lord of Cahlish, known as Kingfisher of the Ajun Gate for a notable win against the Sanasroth. Leader of the Wolves. Half-brother to Everlayne. God-bound and mated to Saeris. Known to his friends as Fisher. Wields the god-sword Nimerelle.
King Belikon trapped his father Finran in order to marry Fisher's mother, then had her killed as well. When it was made apparent that Fisher was strong enough to travel through the quicksilver portals, the king made him do so with no protections, which caused the quicksilver to enter his system and bond with his blood. It now causes him to hear voices and nightmares. He once made a bargain with Malcolm to stop Malcolm from decimating a village. However, Malcolm tricked him by not allowing the coin used in the bargain to touch the ground, thus never bringing it to fruition. He's been trapped ever since, not able to discuss what happened in Gillethrye and was trapped in a labyrinth for decades, until he felt Saeris pull the sword out of the ground. He helps Saeris investigate the quicksilver. When Layne is kidnapped, he rescues her alone and is again captured by Malcolm. Saeris, Lorreth, and Carrion find him and they go together into Malcolm's labyrinth, find the coin, finish the bargain, and Saeris kills Malcolm - which also causes her own death. Fisher asks Taladius, one of Malcolm's sons, to turn Saeris to save her life. It appears that he and Taladius had been working together for some time, trying to find a way to kill Malcolm.
Helps Saeris navigate the politics of the Blood Court while trying to get a handle on the spread of the rot. Kills Ereth, a Lord of Midnight of the Blood Court, for trying to kill Saeris. While in Zilvaren with Carrion, makes a deal with Joshin the scorpion demon which nearly kills Joshin, leaving him trapped in the body of only one small scorpion for now, which Fisher traps in a box and leaves with Foley. Is kidnapped when evacuating Cahlish and trapped in a cursed tree until Saeris frees him using his true name. They then travel to Ajun and go through the brimstone portal to a different realm. There, he reveals that he is the son of a god and that he has come for a dragon.
Lorreth
Fae
Fae warrior and one of Fisher's Wolves. Wields the god-sword Avisieth.
Fisher found him when he had been left for dead and tied his own soul to Lorreth's, ensuring he would survive. Now if Fisher dies before Lorreth, his soul will be forced to wander until the part that is tied to Lorreth is also released, through Lorreth's death. As such, Lorreth will kill himself if Fisher dies, to make sure that never happens. When Saeris first figures out the solution to the quicksilver and forges a sword meant for Danya, Lorreth offers the quicksilver a song that he wrote and accidentally cut himself on the blade. The sword then chose Lorreth as its weilder, which he named Avisieth.
Lorreth helps Saeris train while she is at the Blood Court, as well as accompanying Iseabail to the witch city, which he hates. He evacuates the war camp with Danya after seeing how quickly the rot is spreading and warning Cahlish of its rapid advance.
Madra
Mortal
Immortal Queen in Zilvaren who has set herself up as a goddess to her people. Part of the Triumvirate, which consists of Madra, Malcolm, and Belikon. They've worked together to make each other more powerful. One cannot be killed if the other two still live, or at least that is what they believed (we think Malcolm is dead).
Saeris and the others believe that Madra has created Zilvaren as a giant sigil to siphon her citizen's power to her. She may be strong enough to open portals into other realms without the use of the quicksilver. She is likely using those portals to dro freshly made feeders from Zilvaren into Yvelia.
Malcolm
Vampire
Vampire King who was one of the original fae cursed with the blood curse. When the curse was broken, he chose not to take the cure. The other originals suspiciously disappeared while Malcolm only grew more powerful. King of Sanasroth and constantly trying to invade Yvelia. Part of the Triumvirate, consisting of Malcolm, Madra, and Belikon, which worked together to make each other as strong as possible. One cannot be killed without killing the other two, or so it was believed. Trapped Fisher in a bet but that bet was ended when Fisher and Saeris found the coin and allowed it to hit the ground. Malcolm tried to feed on Carrion and almost died in the process, leaving him weak enough for Saeris to kill with Solace, thoguh he killed her in the process.
Deceased
Maynir
Fae
Married to Te Lena and helping her with her patients. Currently with her in Inishtar.
Merelle
Fae
Ren's twin sister who was a member of the wolves and died at the Battle of Ajun Gate. When she died, she bound a part of her soul to Fisher's god-sword so that she could stay with her friends forever and her body was buried at Ajun.
Deceased but attached to Nimerelle
Orellis
Satyr
Satyr friend of Te Lena who lives in Inishtar. When the white cliffs are attacked by feeders, Orellis shelters Te Lena and her friends including Layne until she needs to clear space for people in her community that need help.
Orious
Fae
Belikon's seneschal who tries to convince Saeris to swear fealty to Belikon but is sent back with a strong message saying no. He later helps Belikon to trap Fisher in a cursed tree. He is killed by Saeris but not before killing Onyx the fox.
Deceased
Renfis
Fae
Fae General of the Yvelian forces, friend to Kingfisher and one of his Wolves. Fisher's second-in-command. Known as Ren. Likely in love with Layne, although it's never been outright said. He helps Saeris investigate the quicksilver and orignally plans to help save Fisher when Fisher goes to rescue Layne, but instead stays with Layne after Fisher rescues her from Malcolm. Can create short portals between two locations.
While warning the surrounding areas of the spreading rot, he is called back to Ajun to guard the Black Gate. He has no time to tell anyone where he's going so his friends believe he is missing and in trouble until Fisher and Saeris arrive at Ajun.
Rusarius
Fae
Fae librarian in Belikon's palace who helps Saeris investigate quicksilver and alchemists.
Saeris Fane
Half Fae Half Vampire
Queen of Sanasroth, mated to Kingfisher. Wielder of the god-sword Solace, which she made into two god-swords named Erromar and Selanir. Was given a book by Fisher's oracle mother that leads her so she can seal her runes and destroy the rot (hopefully).
Mortal living in the city of Zilvaren with her brother Hayden. At one point, worked for Elroy in his forge. Is caught after stealing a gauntlet from the Queen's Guard and is taken to see Queen Madra, who sentences her to death. Instead of going quietly, she pulls Solace out of the ground and opens up the portals to the fae world. She is rescued by Kingfisher and helped to recuperate by Everlayne. King Belikon believes she can work with the quicksilver and orders her to work in the forge with Kingfisher. She eventually travels to the war camp with him and she realizes that she is an alchemist, she can speak to the quicksilver and convince it to do what she needs. She is able to forge new weapons and new relics that allow movement through the quicksilver pools. When Everlayne is captured and Kingfisher goes to save her, Saeris and her friends follow after him. Together with Kingfisher, they realize that Belikon has been working with Malcolm and Madra. They discover that Malcolm has trapped Kingfisher in a bargain that is never made, but they are able to complete the bargain and free Kingfisher. Saeris kills Malcolm but dies in the process. Taladius bites her to turn her into a vampire, but Saeris is pulled into another realm by the god Zareth, where she is returned to the world alive but something new. Not quite fae, not quite vampire, the new Queen of Sanasroth.
Saeris struggles to navigate the Blood Court that she is now in charge of. She also finds out that she needs to seal her quicksilver rune before the power becomes out of control. She instinctually walks into the quicksilver pool and swallows some of the liquid, sealing the rune. She names Foley as the newest Lord of Midnight after Ereth's death and makes a deal with the Hazrax that he may observe her in exchange for one favor a year. She is disavowed by Tal before he kills the majority of the court or turns them back into Fae. She is in Cahlish when they are forced to evacuate from the rot and is one of the first to discover that FIsher is missing. She is given a rune by the Hazrax that is for "undoing". She uses the rune to undo the power that Fisher's true name has over him, allowing him to escape from a cursed tree. When Onyx the fox saves her life and dies in the process, she uses the undoing rune to undo his death so she can heal his wounds. She and Fisher then go to the brimstone pool at Ajun and travel to a different realm where they are taken captive. She needs to find a way to seal the brimstone rune in order to destroy the rot.
Taladius
Vampire
Keeper of Secrets in the Blood Court. Was returned to Fae from vampire. Wields the god-sword Tarsarinn. Was once betrothed to Everlayne and was nearly one of Fisher's wolves, but left Everlayne and his friends to follow the person he was in love with, Zovena, to become a vampire.
Vampire, son of Malcolm who was working with Fisher to find a way to kill Malcolm. When Saeris is killed by Malcolm, Taladius turns her into a vampire to save her life, at Fisher's request.
Tal helps Saeris navigate the Blood Court and disavows her so that no one can call her his puppet. The real reason is because he intends on poisoning and killing the Blood Court to destroy it and commit suicide. However, Foley and Saeris save his life and he then struggles with the fact that he did terrible things as a vampire that he cannot face now that he is Fae again. He finds Zovena's dead body and plans to kill himself, but is saved by seeing the sunrise again. Saeris makes him a god-blade, who chooses him and convinces him that he is worthy of living.

She is nearly killed by Everlayne who tries to choke her without even waking up, but is saved by Carrion and Danya. She continues to watch over Everlayne, moving her to a friend's house at Inishtar when Cahlish is evacuated.
Vorath Shah
Mortal
A merchant in Zilvaren known for having magical items.
When Carrion and Fisher travel to Zilvaren, Shah shows them where Carrion's silver was moved to. But instead, he takes them to the lair of Joshin the scorpion demon. Shah was killed by Carrion as he and Fisher tried to fight their way to safety.

The Daianthus heir
Fae
Legendary heir to the Daianthus line, which died out and allowed Belikon to become King of Yvelia. The only person who may have a legitimate claim and could overthrow Belikon is the Daianthus heir. No one has heard from them in centuries but a rumor persists that they still live.
Turns out Carrion is the Daianthus heir.
Guru
Animal
A shadow cat that lives in the library of Sanasroth. He likes Fisher.
Onyx
Creature
Arctic fox that Saeris takes as a pet.
After being kidnapped with Fisher, Onyx terrorizes Belikon and his group until Saeris shows up to rescue Fisher. Orious tries to kill Saeris but kills Onyx instead. Saeris uses the rest of her undoing rune to undo Onyx's death and healing him - becoming the first person to reverse death.
Not dead anymore
Gillethrye
Place
City sacked by Malcolm, Fisher and his wolves tried to evacuate the fae that were there but were too late as the vampires laid waste to the city. Fisher made a bet with Malcolm, trying to save the people that were left, but was tricked by Malcolm when the coin never fell to the ground - trapping Fisher in a labyrinth for decades as he searched for the coin, trying to end the bet. As part of the bet, Fisher cannot discuss what happened.
Avisieth
Relic
Sword wielded by Lorreth with the power of "angels breath". The first sword made by Saeris infused with quicksilver and the first sword with magic since the godswords started to die out.
Nimerelle
Relic
Sword wielded by Kingfisher, godsword which still retains a small amount of magic when the other godswords do not, although no one is sure why.
Ren's sister Merelle bonded a part of her soul to the blade when she died at Ajun so she could always fight with her friends. The sword was named after her.
Solace
Relic
Fisher's father sword which had kept the quicksilver portals closed as long as it was in the ground in Madra's palace. When Saeris pulled Solace out, it opened the portals back up. A godsword that no longer has magic, until Saeris wields it and brings it back to life.
The sword is too large for Saeris to use properly so she uses it as two smaller swords named Erromar and Selanir instead, meaning mercy and honor respectively.
