Empire of Storms Study Guide
Aedion Ashryver
Terrasen
Demi-Fae originally from Wendlyn, sent to Terrasen to become Aelin's sworn protector. When Terrasen was conquered, he joined the King of Adarlan's armies, eventually becoming General and asking for the Sword of Orynth to wield. Known as the Wolf of the North, in charge of the Bane. In love with Lysandra.
Was given a black ring by the king. In actuality, he threw the black ring away when he realized there was something strange about it and had a replica made, and he has been working to protect the people of Terrasen as best as he could. Starts working with Ren of Allsbrook and trades information with Chaol. Is arrested by the king for working with the rebels, the king hopes that Aelin will attempt to rescue him.
Aelin does, in fact, rescue Aedion and the two refresh their relationship. Aedion is at first heart broken that Rowan has already given his blood oath to Aelin, but they decide that Aedion can do it as well. He does not want to do it until she is crowned again. Rowan reveals that Aedion's father is Gavriel, one of Maeve's sworn warriors. Aedion learns from Rowan and the two of them use the hellfire barrels to destroy the black clocktower in Rifthold, returning magic to the land, and are forced to kill the remaining Wyrdhounds in the process. Aedion travels with Aelin to Terrasen.
When they are refused entrance into Terrasen and Aelin is not allowed to claim her throne, they travel together to the south to collect allies. First stopping in Ilium to visit the temple, then to the Dead Islands to speak to the Pirate Lord Rolfe, where Aedion meets his father Gavriel, and then making their way to the Stone Marshes to find the Lock. After Aelin is taken by Maeve, Aedion will travel with Lysandra (posing as Aelin), the Mycenians, Ansel, Galan, Ilias, and the Whitethorn fleet to Terrasen.
Currently holds the Sword of Orynth and the Shield of Orynth.
Aelin Galathynius
Terrasen
Queen of Terrasen. Owner of Fleetfoot. Wife and mate of Rowan. Her family was killed by the King of Adarlan in order for him to take control of Terrasen. Her body was not found, but it was believed that she was killed the same night. Really she had been found and trained by the Assassin King Arobynn Hamel.
As Celaena, she ruined a slave trade agreement between Arobynn and the Pirate Lord and freed the slaves. Was beaten by Arobynn and sent to the Red Desert and the SIlent Assassins as punishment. Trained with the Mute Master and saved him (and his son) from being killed by Lord Berick's forces. Unmasked Ansel as Berick's informant but allowed her to leave instead of killing her. Fell in love with Sam and paid both of their debts to Arobynn, leaving the keep and moving in with Sam with the hopes to leave Rifthold together. Arobynn arranged to have Sam killed, Celaena was captured trying to avenge his death and was sent to the salt mines of Endovier.
Was removed from Endovier to compete for the position of King's Champion. In the process, made friends with Nehemia, Dorian, and Chaol, with a flirty side to her friendship with both Dorian and Chaol. Found the tomb of Gavin and Elena, was given the Eye of Elena by Elena herself, and used Damaris to kill the Ridderak, which was called by Cain and was murdering the competitors. In her final fight with Cain, she was poisoned by Kaltain and nearly beaten, but Nehemia healed her wounds and called Elena to help pull the poison from her body, while Chaol gave her encouragement. After she won the fight, Cain tried to kill her but was stopped and killed by Chaol. She won the position of King's Champion and broke off her flirtation with Dorian, choosing to only be his friend.
Working as King's Champion but is really staging his enemies deaths and allowing them to escape. Begins a relationship with Chaol until he is kidnapped by the rebellion in Rifthold to lure her out to talk to them. While she speaks to them, she finds out that Archer (her most recent target) really is part of the rebellion as is Nehemia. She is told that Nehemia is in danger and Chaol knew but did not tell her, breaking her trust in him. When Nehemia is killed that night, she cannot forgive him. She investigates some hidden crypts beneath the library and finds a creature down there who tries to kill her. She traps and kills the creature with Dorian's help, revealing that she can use Wyrdmarks and he has power. After Nehemia's death, she opens a portal to speak to Nehemia's ghost which allows some demons through, Fleetfoot protects her from the demons, Chaol protects Fleetfoot when she is taken into the portal, and Celaena enters the portal and becomes her Fae self, saving all three of them and revealing her secret to Chaol. Dorian doesn't see any of that but helps Celaena close the portal. She investigates the location of the Wyrdkeys using the riddle in Elena's tomb and finds the location of one, which is empty. She speaks to Mort and they believe that the King has not one, but two of the Wyrdkeys. She is sent Wendlyn to kill the King there, but before she leaves gives information to Chaol (she finally forgives him) that leads him to realize that she is Aelin Galthynius, lost Princess and heir to Terrasen.
She travels to Wendlyn then up toward Doranelle, where she is intercepted by Maeve and one of her sworn warriors, Rowan, in the outpost Mistward. Maeve will not answer Celaena's question until she is trained by Rowan and Rowan deems Celaena ready. She slowly deals with her grief and learns how to shift on command and control her wildfire, becoming friends with some of the Mistward residents and becoming friends and bonding with Rowan in the process. She and Rowan investigate the strange deaths of several Demi-Fae that were killed by a unknown creature, leading them to discover Adarlan's forces preparing to attack Mistward. During the attack, Celaena holds off three of the king's creatures, which she realizes are Valg princes, who force her to relive the worst moments of her life and take her to the deepest, darkest parts of her soul. She walks through that dark and emerges stronger for it. Rowan gives her access to his magic through their Carranam bond, allowing her to destroy the three Valg princes as well as one in the body of Captain Narrok, but only after Narrok sends her a vision of the future - of Celaena with three wyrdkeys and beloved by her people. She travels with Rowan to see Maeve and barters for Rowan's release from his oath to Maeve, accepting him into her own court instead. She prepares to travel back to Rifthold to get the Amulet of Orynth back from Arobynn, finally accepting her birthrite as Aelin, Queen of Terrasen.
Aelin returns to Rifthold and arranges for Arobynn's murder and fraudelently takes everything as her inheritance, choosing to sell the keep to the assassins that remain there. She frees Aedion as he's about to be executed, repairing their relationship. She takes the Amulet of Orynth, and the Wyrdkey it contains, back from Arobynn. She conspires with the rebels to free Lysandra after she is taken prisoner and is on her way to Morath. She confronts the king and Dorian, possessed by a Valg prince, as Aedion and Rowan destroy the clocktower and return magic. She is able to free Dorian from the influence of the Valg and the two of them work together to overpower his father. She rules in Dorian's stead until he is well enough to take over, before taking her court back to Terrasen. She finally finds and visits Sam's grave.
She travels with her friends toward Terrasen but is told by one of the remaining Terrasen lords that they do not recognize her as queen. She pivots quickly and travels to Ilium to speak to Brannon in the temple, where she is alerted to the existence of a Lock that will place the Keys back into the Wyrdgate. She then travels to the Dead Islands, where she meets back up with Rowan and Dorian and joins Fenrys and Gavriel, and where she reveals that Rolfe is the heir to the Mycenians and she brokers an alliance with him. She also nearly destroys Skull's Bay when her body is briefly inhabitied by the spirit of Deanna. She takes a quarter of Rolfe's fleet and travels to the Stone Marshes to find the Lock, where she joins up with Manon and Abraxos. And then later Lorcan and Elide, who gives her the Key from Kaltain. And then even later, Ansel of Briarcliff. She and Manon find a mirror instead of a Lock and use it to view Elena's memories, where they discover that Aelin must forge a new Lock and will die in doing so. When they leave the mirror, Aelin is kidnapped by Maeve and taken to Doranelle.
Definitely not dead, but captured and held by Maeve. Has now accepted her feeling for Rowan and married him in secret.
Amithy
Rifthold
Healer and boss of Sorscha, who warns Sorscha not to become involved with Dorian and eventually betrays Sorscha to the king. She was likely killed in the Glass Palace explosion.
Likely dead, and good riddance
Ansel of Briarcliff
Western Wastes
Of Briarcliff in the Western Wastes. Her father and sister were killed by a lord seizing all of the surrounding lands, calling himself the High King of the Flatlands. Ansel hid until he and his men were gone, then ran. She met an Ironteeth witch (who did not eat her), who took care of Ansel and sent her to the Silent Assassins. Meets Celaena when they are both training with the Silent Assassins in the Red Desert. Gave Lord Berick inside information about the assassins and the keep to help him destroy the Silent Assassins, in exchange for an army to help her take back Briarcliff. She fought Celaena, Celaena beat her but allowed her to leave instead of killing her.
Ansel defeated the High King of the Flatlands and has set herself up as Queen of the Western Wastes. When Aelin reached out to her, Ansel took her fleet through Melisande - pretending to be allied with Morath - and taking the capital of Melisande for Aelin. She left half of her forces there in occupation and brought the other half to meet Aelin outside of Eyllwe. Is currently traveling with Aedion, Lysandra (as Aelin), the Mycenians, Galan, Ilias, and the Whitethorn fleet toward Terrasen.
Archer Finn
Adarlan
Courtesan who Celaena met while she was training with Arobynn Hamel. The King of Adarlan gave Celaena his name as a mark, believing he was involved in a growing rebellion in Rifthold. Celaena gave him the option to run but before he was supposed to leave the city, she realized that he really was involved in the rebellion and had hired someone to murder Nehemia. His aim was to depose the King of Adarlan and restore Aelin to the throne of Terrasen. Celaena ended up killing him after he nearly gets her, Chaol, Dorian, and Fleetfoot killed.
Deceased
Arobynn Hamel
Adarlan
Assassin King of Rifthold who rescued and trained Celaena to become an assassin. He beat her and sent her to the Red Desert as punishment after she ruined a slave trade agreement for him. He later arranged to have Sam killed and Celaena imprisoned, but only after he broke Celaena down as much as he could.
He killed his bodyguard Wesley after Wesley killed Rourke Farran to avenge Sam's death.
While being tortured by the Valg princes, Celaena realizes that she was wearing the Amulet of Orynth when she was found by Arobynn, though she has not seen it first. She plans to travel to Rifthold to get it back.
Works with Aelin to free Aedion, in exchange for a Valg demon he can question. He uses the information he receives to try to bind Aelin to him with the black ring, but she out witted him and slipped him a fake. She takes back the Amulet of Orynth and that night, arranges to have Lysandra kill him in his sleep. Aelin uses a fake will to inherit everything, but sells the keep back to the assassins.

Brannon Galathynius
Terrasen
Legendary Fae King and founder of Terrasen, father of Elena. Unclaimed by either his mother or father, but the goddess Mala bestowed her wildfire upon him. Gifted his son-in-law Gavin lands which he used to become the First King of Adarlan. Was very powerful.
During the war with the Valg, Brannon used his wildfire to hold back the Valg princes and contain them. He then traveled with his closest friend Athril to return the three Wyrdkeys to their places in the Wyrdgate but was intercepted by Maeve, who wanted the keys for herself and killed Athril trying to obtain them. Brannon escaped with the keys and hid them, hiding one inside a pendant necklace that he had made: the Amulet of Orynth, which he gave to his descendants to help protect them from Maeve.
Brannon and his wife Mala had worked together to create a Lock that would reunite the Wyrdkeys with the Wyrdgate and allow them to expel Erawan from Erilea. They would also send the gods back to their own lands before sealing the Gate again. However, this Lock could only be used once and was used by Elena to seal Erawan in his tomb.

Was in the final two contestants with Celaena, and he almost beat her, but she won with the help of Elena and Nehemia. He was killed by Chaol when he tried to murder Celaena after the fight.
Used to have a black ring that matched Duke Perrington, possibly given to Roland of Meah.
Deceased
Chaol Westfall
Anielle
Captain of the Royal Guard, best friend of Dorian, Lord of Anielle, Hand of the King.
Went with Dorian to retrieve Celaena from the salt mines of Endovier and trains with her during the competition to get her back into shape, but he does not trust her. At some points, he develops feelings for her and encourages her during her final fight with Cain, although he is not allowed to help her. After the fight when Cain tries to kill Celaena, Cain kills him. The first time he killed a person.
Begins a relationship with Celaena. He is later kidnapped by the rebellion in Rifthold to lure Celaena into talking to them and it is revealed that he knew someone had threatened Nehemia, he knew that the King wanted to speak to Nehemia that night, and he had not told Celaena. She no longer trusts Chaol and when Nehemia is killed that night, she cannot forgive him. When Dorian is warned by Gavin that Celaena is going to do something stupid, he collects Chaol and they run to find her opening a portal to speak to Nehemia's ghost. He protects Fleetfoot when she is taken into the portal and fights the demons until Celaena comes in and uses her Fae magic to save them all. He keeps Celaena's secret but tries to find a way for her to get out of Rifthold to keep her safe. He arranges to have her sent to Wendlyn and after she leaves, realizes that Celaena is the lost Princess of Terrasen, Aelin Galathynius.
He prepares to take his place as his father's heir in Anielle and searches for a replacement as Captain of the Guard. Tracks Aedion and discovers that he is working against the king with the rebels. He trades information with them and works with Dorian to figure out how the king stopped the magic in Adarlan. He is called with Aedion, Dorian, and Sorscha to a meeting with the king, in which Aedion is arrested for working with rebels and Sorscha is executed as a traitor. Chaol finally makes his choice, calling Dorian his king, and is almost executed by the king but Dorian attacks his father and helps Chaol to escape. He takes Fleetfoot, Damaris, and some magic books to the safe house where he meets Ren. He throws his Captain of the Guard sword into the river, washing away his previous alliances.
He starts working with the rebels in Rifthold, rescuing and evacuating prisoners set up for execution. It's a rough road, but he ends up finally being okay around Aelin. He helps to rescue Lysandra and almost gets himself killed when he tries to get to Dorian. Works with Aelin to restore magic (his hypothesis works) and is nearly killed by the King of Adarlan, only saved by the Eye of Elena. He ends up paralyzed and is ordered by his new king, Dorian, to travel to the Southern Continenet and see if he can be healed there. Is given the role of emissary by Aelin and is told to get them allies for the coming fight.
Clarisse
Rifthold
Madam who has Lysandra in her servitude. When Arobynn is killed and Aelin inherits everything, she gives Clarisse only enough money to pay off Arobynn's debts to her. Clarisse knows she was screwed. Later, Aelin makes sure that Lysandra has enough money to free herself and Evangeline.
Dorian Havilliard
Adarlan
Ousted King of Adarlan. Best friend of Chaol Westfall. Chose to bring Celaena out of Endovier to be his competitor for King's Champion. Started to have feeling for Celaena but she ended their flirtation when she won the competition. Gave Celaena Fleetfoot as a puppy.
Is jealous of the blossoming relationship between Chaol and Celaena. Hesitant ally of Nehemia. In a moment of fear and anger, he realizes that he has magic. Follows Celaena into the crypts below the library and helps her kill the creature that chases her, realizing that she can use Wyrdmarks and revealing that he has power. Is visited in a dream by Gavin who warns him that Celaena is going to do something stupid, collects Chaol, and runs to find her opening a portal to speak to Nehemia's ghost. He is knocked out and does not see Celaena in her Fae form, but uses his power to help close the portal. Takes guardianship of Fleetfoot when Celaena leaves for Wendlyn.
Dorian starts training with the guards and becomes romantically entangled with Sorscha, the healer who has healed Dorian and his friends on several occasions without reporting the strange injuries to her boss. Sorscha helps Dorian find a way to keep his magic contained to protect him from his father. Dorian performs some tests with Chaol to try to decipher how the king got rid of the magic in Adarlan, telling Chaol that he is prepared to help Celaena in any way he can, going against his father. Later, he is called before his father with Chaol, Sorscha, and Aedion. Aedion is imprisoned and Sorscha is killed as a traitor. Chaol is nearly killed but Dorian unleashes his magic on his father, clearing a way for Chaol to escape. He fights his father, who suspected he had magic, but his father is stronger and more practiced and brings out a collar for Dorian which would allow the king to control him.
His father puts a collar on him, allowing his body to be occupied by a Valg Prince. Dorian fights for control but it is slowly wrested away from him. Aelin originally plans to kill Dorian, believing that there is no other recourse, but Manon sends her a message that Dorian is still inside his body and reachable. Aelin slips the golden ring on Dorian, allowing him to regain control of his body and break the collar. Together, they fight Dorian's father. Dorian's power explodes from him, breaking the glass portion of the palace and sending the glass shards towards Rifthold, but they are stopped by Aelin. Aelin takes control of Rifthold while Dorian is recovering, relinquishing control to him when he is capable of ruling. He promotes Chaol to his Hand of the King and sends him to the Southern Continent and revokes his control of any countries his father conquered.
Rowan has said he's never seen anything like the depths of Dorian's power.
Dorian is in Rifthold when the city is sacked by the Ironteeth witches, Rowan arrives to help get him to safety. Dorian is named an enemy of Adarlan by "King Perrington". They travel to the Dead Islands, where they meet back up with Aelin and broker an alliance with Rolfe. They then move towards the Stone Marshes, where Dorian spots Abraxos and a grieviously injured Manon (who he later sleeps with). Once they join forces with Ansel, Galan, and Ilias, and Aelin is taken by Maeve, Dorian takes possession of their two Wyrdkeys. He travels with Manon and the Thirteen to the Western Wastes to raise the Crochan witches before traveling to Terrasen.
Duke Perrington
Morath
Duke of Morath. Came with Dorian and Chaol to retrieve Celaena from the salt mines of Endovier. Conspires with Kaltain Rompier to get rid of Celaena and convince Kaltain to poison her before her final fight with Cain. When Celaena wins, he blames the whole thing on Kaltain and he is not punished. It is later revealed that he had been using power on Kaltain to manipulate her.
Has a matching black ring with the King of Adarlan and Roland of Meah. He has Kaltain brought to Morath, presumably so he can marry her.
Half of the Ironteeth witches are sent to Morath to meet up with Duke Perrington. He starts to expirament on the witches, sewing onyx pieces into their abdomens to allow them to carry children for the Valg. He is conducting other expiraments as well, below the mountains. The King of Adarlan reveals that Erawan has already been released and resides within Duke Perrington.
Erawan has since cast off Duke Perrington's body.
Deceased
Elena Galathynius Havilliard
Terrasen
Princess of Terrasen and first Queen of Adarlan. Daughter of the Fae King Brannon, wife of King Gavin. With the help of Gavin, defeated Erawan, the Valg King. Her spirit comes to Celaena after Celaena finds Elena's tomb. Gives Celaena the Eye of Elena necklace, assists her with some challenges, and encourages Celaena to end the evil within the castle. During Celaena's final fight with Cain, Elena takes the poison from Celaena's body and holds off his demons, allowing Celaena to defeat Cain.
While legend says that Elena and her husband Gavin defeated Erawan, Aelin receives information that indicates that is untrue. They were not able to kill him, instead incapacitating him using the Eye of Elena for long enough to seal him within a sarcophagus, within a mountain tomb. It is revealed that the Eye of Elena is a Lock that needs to be used to reinsert the Wyrdkeys into the Gate in order to send Erawan as well as the gods back to their own lands. It can only be used once and when Elena used it to seal Erawan into his tomb, she ruined their plans. As punishment, Elena must show Aelin how to reforge the Lock, which will kill Aelin. Elena is the reason Aelin lived through the assassination attempt, keeping her from dying of hypothermia and alerting Arobynn to her location. She helped Nehemia bring Dorian and Aelin together, and encouraged Nehemia to give her own life to spur Aelin's actions. As penance for not taking Aelin to reforge the Lock immediately, instead allowing Aelin the chance to have a life first, Elena will cease to exist once her task is done and the Lock is remade. She will not go on to any afterlife where she would see her family.
Deceased
Elide Lochan
Terrasen
Should be Lady of Peranth after her mother, Marion, was killed protecting Aelin and her father, Cal, was killed during the Adarlan's attack on Terrasen. She had been taken by her father's brother, Vernon Lochan, who stole her title and seat of power and did not give her any freedom. He brings her to Morath, where she is shackled at all times. She learns from Manon that she has at least a little bit of witch heritage, Manon can taste in in her blood, likely from her mother. She spies for Manon, finding out what is happening with the witch coven used by the duke for his expiraments. She is kidnapped by her uncle, who plans to have her expiramented on as well, but is rescued by Manon. In the rescue, Kaltain gives Elide a Wyrdkey and sends her to find Celaena (Aelin). Manon drops Elide off in Oakwald and points her toward Terrasen, telling her that Aelin and Aedion are on their way there. Elide and Manon are the only living people to know she has a Wyrdkey.

During war games when the witches were told not to kill each other, Iskra gave her wyvern the kill order while attacking Petrah and her wyvern. Petrah's wyvern did not livewhile Petrah only survived because Manon saved her.
During the sack of Rifthold, Manon kills one of Iskra's coven members. Iskra demands recompense and a trial is held. As punishment, one of Manon's coven members is to be killed and the Blackbeak Matron names Asterin. Instead of allowing Asterin to be killed, Manon frees her and commands the Thirteen to run, nearly being killed by her grandmother in the process.
Kaltain Rompier
Adarlan
Previous lady-in-waiting to Queen Georgina. New in Rifthold and wants to marry Dorian, using Duke Perrington to get close to him. Works with Perrington to drug Celaena in the final fight between Celaena and Cain. When Celaena wins, Perrington blames the whole thing on Kaltain. She is taken to the dungeons. We learn later that Perrington was using power to manipulate Kaltain, causing her headaches and fatigue, which they blamed on her opium addiction.
She is told that she is going to marry Perrington and is taken from the dungeons to Morath. When last seen by Celaena in the dungeons, she complained of headaches and flapping wings. She believes that Perrington wants her, but not to be his wife.
Kaltain is seen again in Morath wearing a black collar and sporting a nasty scar along one arm. Duke Perrington has been conducting expiraments using Kaltain's shadowfire, which he believes could kill an entire army with the right resources. At this point, she is not quite able to destroy a village. Kaltain fights against the Valg Prince within her and destroys him, regaining control of herself. She facilitates in the rescue of Elide, taking Elide's place and giving Elide the Wyrdkey contained within the scar on her arm. It is discovered that he has been creating wyvern and he asks the Ironteeth for an alliance, allowing them to use the wyvern as mounts. They will fight for him, then use the wyvern to reclaim the Western Wastes. Has also released the Valg princes, who roam around in bodies that do not belong to them wearing collars that allow the king some level of control over them. When an enslaved girl starts a revolt in the Calaculla work camp, he has everyone in the Calaculla and Endovier camps killed. He has Aedion imprisoned for working with the rebels and Sorscha killed for relaying information to rebels. He calls for Chaol's execution as well, though Chaol escapes. He fights Dorian and brings out a collar for his own son.
When Dorian and Aelin fight and overpower the king, he reveals that he has been posessed by a Valg Prince for years (since before Dorian was born). He was trapped by Duke Perrington, who also was possessed at the same time, by Erawan. He tells them that he put up the towers to protect Dorian, Erawan hates all Havilliards and all Galathyniuses. Lorcan
Doranelle
Demi-Fae warrior sworn to serve Maeve. The most powerful Demi-Fae alive, equal in power to Rowan.
He follows Aelin to Rifthold, and is followed by Rowan. He tells them that he does not want Maeve to find the whereabouts of the Wyrdkeys, for her own good, so he is here on his own accord but still in service to Maeve. He trades the golden ring for the Amulet of Orynth, but is given a fake amulet. Aelin traps him in the sewer where he has to fight several Valg commanders and a Wyrdhound, proving that they can be killed. Once they have a scent, it is believed that the other hounds pursue him and he is forced to kill them all, though that is not true. Instead, he turned them onto Rowan's scent. Even so, he discovers who Aedion's father is and comes to save them when they're nearly killed in the tunnels trying to bring the tower down. Later, he takes the golden ring back from Dorian before disappearing.
He follows Elide in Oakwald Forest and eventually saves her from ilken. They travel together and the two of them slowly develop feeling for each other, Elide eventually offering a home to Lorcan should he ever need it. They travel toward Eyllwe and Aelin, where Lorcan warns Aelin and her friends of an impending ilken attack. After a truce is called and Gavriel and Fenrys do not need to immediately kill Lorcan on Maeve's orders, they all fight for Aelin against Maeve's forces for as long as they can. Once Maeve calls them back, she severs her bond with Lorcan because she knows it will hurt him the most, but it doesn't hurt as much because he is so focused on saving Elide. And after Aelin is taken by Maeve, although Elide is furious and blames Lorcan, he travels with Elide, Rowan, and Gavriel toward Doranelle to save Aelin.

A courtesan and a previous irritant to Aelin. Shape-shifter. Lady of Caraverre. Has been given lands and a title within Terrasen after buying her freedom and the freedom of Evangline from Clarisse. Guardian of Evangeline.
Arobynn bids on and wins her "bidding", when men bid on taking her virginity.
Lysandra helps Aelin, revealing that she had been in love with Wesley and considered Sam a friend before Arobynn had both of them killed. Aelin gives her the honor of killing Arobynn, which she does. She facilitates the escape of Aedion before he is executed. She is later imprisoned for being a magic user and placed in a prison wagon to be sent to Morath, but is rescued by Aelin and her friends. When magic is returned, she shifts into a snow leopard and kills several Valg demons, saving the lives of Rowan, Aedion, and Lorcan.
Travels with Aelin towards Terrasen but after they are denied entrance and Aelin is not allowed to claim her throne, they send Evangeline with Murtaugh and Fleetfoot for her safety and go south to gather allies. They travel first to Ilium, where Lysandra is able to study the form of Sea Dragons, and then to Skull's Bay, where Lysandra plays a pivotal part in a sea battle against Morath. She shifts into a sea dragon and kills the better part of five sea wyverns. This also serves as a symbol to the Mycenians, who legend says will not return until the sea dragons are seen again. They later travel to the Stone Marshes, picking up Manon and Abraxos on the way. Lysandra is able to study Abraxos and can shift into a wyvern as well. She fights against Maeve as a sea dragon and when Aelin is taken, shifts into the shape of Aelin to impersonate her for as long as possible - possibly forever. She travels to Terrasen with Aedion (who is mad at her), Ansel, Ilias, Galan, the Mycenians, and the Whitethorn fleet.

Manon Blackbeak
Western Wastes
Heir to the Blackbeak clan of Ironteeth witches and Queen of the Crochan witches. Leader of her own coven called The Thirteen. Claims Abraxos as her wyvern and becomes Wing Leader of all the Ironteeth witches, now deposed. During the war games, she saves the life of Petrah (the Blueblood heir), who's wyvern was killed by Iskra (the Yellowlegs heir) even though they were supposed to avoid killing each other. She and half of the Ironteeth host fly to meet Duke Perrington in Morath while the second half stays in the mountains, lead by Iskra.
She is forced to choose a coven of witches to be expiramented on by Duke Perrington but regrets it even before she does it (she didn't really choose, the coven volunteered their service). She begins to have doubts about her grandmother and the other Clan Matrons, even before she learns a difficult truth about Asterin's past. She takes Elide under her protection as a witch, rescuing her from a dungeon cell and removing her from Morath as soon as she realized that Vernon had entrapped her. She fought Aelin and the two of them destroy a temple but Aelin gets the upper hand when the temple roof collapses on Manon. Manon nearly dies but Aelin returns to her and pulls her out of the rubble, saving her life. Manon alerts Aelin that Dorian is still inside his body, repaying the life debt that she owed.
She travels to Rifthold when it is being sacked and saves Dorian's life, allowing him to get to safety, and killing several Yellowlegs witches in the process. Afterward, Iskra calls for a trial and one of Manon's coven members is to be killed as recompense. The Blackbeak Matron chooses Asterin but instead of allowing Asterin to be killed, Manon frees her and yells at the Thirteen to flee while she fights her grandmother. Her grandmother nearly kills her, revealing that her father was a Crochan prince in the process. She tells Manon that the last Crochan witch she killed was her own half-sister, she is the last of the Crochan royal line, but Manon is able to get away and is rescued by a waiting Abraxos, who takes her to Dorian and Aelin. She travels with them to the Stone Marshes where Manon meets with Ansel of Briarcliff, Queen of the Western Wastes, and Aelin tries to get them to split the Wastes between them. Manon goes into the witch mirror with Aelin, learning that Aelin must give her own life to recreate the Lock. When they leave the mirror and are transported to Maeve's location, Aelin descreetly passes the Keys to Manon for safekeeping. She later gives them to Dorian after Aelin is taken by Maeve. She and the Thirteen, who found her thanks to Abraxos' help, decide to travel to the Wastes with Dorian to try to gather Crochan forces and unite the two witch sides before then taking Dorian and the Keys to Terrasen.
Maeve

One of three legendary Fae sister-queens. Rules from Doranelle. She refused to help Terrasen when they called for aid to defend against Adarlan. Does not seem to think the Demi-Fae are worth protecting.
Was once in love with Athril, and wanted to accept his familial ring. Instead, she killed Athril fighting for control of the three Wyrdkeys, but the keys were taken by Brannon and hidden from her. She now has a cadre of warriors who are sworn to her by blood oath, including Rowan Whitethorn, whom she commands to train Aelin. When Aelin is finally brought to ask Maeve her questions, she does not reveal much new information. But Aelin bring out Athril's ring, which she and Rowan found inside the cave lake and barters for Rowan's freedom in exchange for the ring. Maeve releases Rowan from his oath and tells them to leave Doranelle.
Lorcan follows Aelin to Rifthold and bring the golden ring with him, explaining that the ring protects the wearer from the Valg. With the ring, Maeve could find the keys with no concern of being possessed herself, and Lorcan does not want Maeve to find the keys and have that amount of power.
She attacks Aelin outside of Eyllwe after planting traps to ensure that Aelin's power would be drained and weak after weeks of use. However, much of her fleet turns against her to follow Rowan instead. She reveals to Aelin that Lyria and Rowan were not mates. It is something that she told them so that when she had Lyria killed, it would break Rowan and allow her to use him as she wished. To bring him into her fold. She severs her bond with Gavriel and Lorcan because she knows it will hurt them the most, while keeping Fenrys close to her because she knows he resents their bond. She then has Aelin put in an iron mask, inside an iron box, and she takes Aelin and Fenrys back to Doranelle.
