The second book in Stacey McEwan's Glacian Trilogy, Chasm continues the story of Dawsyn. A TikTok sensation, Stacey was encouraged by her followers to put her ideas down in writing and led her to publish Ledge, the first novel in the series. Chasm has references to bullying, death, physical abuse, slavery, child abuse, confinement, genocide, torture, slavery, violence and blood, vomit, kidnapping, murder, fire and fire injury, sexual harassment, war, injury detail, and classism.
Dawsyn wakes up after the events of Ledge in the prisons of Queens Alvira and Cressida. She has failed to gain the assistance of the queens and free the people of the Ledge, but just when it seems that hope is all lost, Dawsyn is rescued from her own execution. Now she must learn to work with people and face down the strangeness that is inside of her if she wants to have a second chance to follow through with her goals. Most of all, she will have to grapple with her love for Ryon, the half-glacian who betrayed her.
A strong second novel from Stacey McEwan. It was not as good as the first, but I enjoyed the character progression that was shown by Dawsyn, as well as the addition of a few new characters to the mix. The storyline is moving along nicely, it never seemed particularly slow and it was easy to follow. But the best part of Stacey McEwan's books are her witty dialogue, best shown in this novel in the character of Esra, who has a snappy comment everytime his mouth opens. Absolutely delightful.
I'm giving Chasm by Stacey McEwan 4.25 stars out of 5, and the spice level is only a 1, a bit lower than its predecessor. I enjoyed this book but it was not as good as Ledge. I am very excited to see where the finale of the series takes us, so keep an eye out for Valley, which I'll be reading soon.

Pairs well with roasted potatoes and knowing how to crouch in the snow.
