Laura Steven is best known for her young adult books, including Our Infinite Fates, which is an Amazon Editor's Pick for Best Young Adult books. She's also in the middle of writing the Silvercloak series, which deviates from her normal YA content and wades into the world of adult fantasy, with the second book Turncloak releasing in September of 2026. Our Infinite Fates deals with death including suicide, torture, a small amount of blood and light kidnapping, injury, murder, and references to the death of a parent and war.

Evelyn known that she has had many different lives. She is reincarnated every almost eighteen years. And in every one of those lives, she and Ardan have died together. Either she kills him or, more commonly, he kills her - always just before the moment they turn eighteen. It is as if their lives are tied together and he is drawn to her. He is always able to find her no matter how she tries to hide. But Evelyn knows that Ardan doesn't hate her. In fact, the majority of those lives included the two of them falling in love before their deaths. There is something that is forcing Ardan to kill Evelyn before they turn eighteen to prevent something catastrophic from happening, but Evelyn doesn't remember what that catastrophic thing is. They are destined to spend eternity like they have the last thousand years: finding each other, falling in love, only having each other for a short time before giving up their families and their lives to start the whole process again. The problem is, Evelyn is thoroughly sick of it. She really likes the life that she is currently living and she wants to keep it. And she is going to find a way to stay in this life and keep Ardan too.

This book surprised me by how much I liked it. A story that slowly unravels in multiple timelines. On one hand, you have the life that Evelyn lives now in present day Wales. In between, you get chapters of the previous lives that Evelyn and Ardan have lived together, told in reverse chronological order all the way back to the very first time they met. The story was put together quite well and I enjoyed learning their story little by little as I came to know the characters in the present. The moment of the big reveal was completely unexpected for me and I liked it. I loved the ending, I thought it was very well done and a nice way to wrap everything back up, although I still worry about Kerry. The characters were likable if a little saccharine at times, a little impetuous at others. I didn't always agree with their choices but I understood their reasoning. All in all, a decent story that I think most people would enjoy, and it would be a great fantasy choice for those readers who aren't ready for the adult section quite yet.

I'm giving Our Infinite Fates 4 stars out of 5 with no spice. A younger version of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRou with This is How You Lose the Time War vibes. Laura Steven has a new YA book dropping in 2027, The Only Immortals, which also sounds pretty interesting.
