Emily Henry released People We Meet on Vacation back in 2021 but it remains a favorite. It is an Amazon Editor's Pick for Best Romance and is currently being made into a Netflix film with a screenplay by Yulin Kuang (see the review of her debut novel How to End a Love Story), which is due out in early 2026. This book deals with bullying, mental illness, grief, and the death of a parent.
Poppy has it all. She lives in New York while working for a popular travel magazine which allows her to travel and see all of the very best attractions while staying at the most luxurious hotels and eating at the most exclusive restaurants. So why is it that she is not happy? When she is advised to think back to the last time she can remember being happy, she has no trouble pinpointing the moment. It was on her last vacation with her best friend Alex, the best friend that she used to take an annual summer vacation with and who she hasn't spoken to in years. Holding her breath from nerves, she reaches out to Alex and he agrees to join her for a weeklong vacation just like they used to - as long as it's in Palm Beach. Poppy can make that happen. It's time for her to let go of her "millenial ennui" and find her happiness again.
Well at this point, all I'm really worried about is running out of Emily Henry books to read. I LOVED it. Emily Henry has a way of writing characters that I don't find annoying at all and I just want to read about forever. This book is no different. A story of how opposites attract which wonderful character development and a satisfying, yet open ended ending. It was funny, it was light, it was sarcastic. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Plus, Alex may have just surpassed Miles from Funny Story as my favorite love interest. Or maybe they're tied. Don't make me choose.
I'm giving People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry 5 stars! Spice level was a 1.5, it wasn't particularly spicy at all. But I was absolutely delightful and I can't wait for the movie to come out - I'm busy that day.
