Yellow words on a red background as a man sitting on a teal rolling chair wearing a white doctors jacket and blue slacks with yellow socks and black shoes writes a letter looking at a woman sitting on the "t" in a green shirt and dark blue skirt and black shoes writing on papers on her legs crossed at the knee and a dog watches a paper airplane fly
Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez

The second novel in Abby Jimenez's Part of Your World series, Yours Truly came out in 2023 and is an Amazon Editors' Pick for Best Romance. And because I don't know how to start at the beginning, it's the last novel of the three book series (so far) that I haven't read. I'm not sure if there will be more coming in the Part of Your World series, the most recent book Just for the Summer came out in 2024, but a girl can hope. This book deals with chronic illness, infidelity, mental illness, terminal illness, medical content, grief, pregnancy, and references to animal cruelty, gaslighting, miscarriage, and abandonment.

Briana Ortiz is stressed out. Her divorce is about to be finalized after her husband left her for their (also married) friend, her brother Benny needs a kidney donor and he's running out of time, and she promotion she was gearing for may not be on the table for several more months since the doctor retiring has pushed back his retirement. Jacob, on the other hand, is incredibly stressed out. He's starting his first day at Royaume Northwestern and for some reason, all of the nurse's hate him, he's lost every one of his six patients, and he has to go to dinner with his brother and his brother's new girlfriend after his shift ends. By the way, he used to date his brother's new girlfriend. When he is looking for a little quiet and stumbles on Briana in what she likes to call her "sob closet" it inspires him to write her a letter that may just fix all the bad first impressions and make life a lot less stressful for them both.

I'm really trying not to binge read all of Abby Jimenez's books but this one is not helping the compulsion. It was funny and heartbreaking all in one. Both Briana and Jacob are pretty relatable - for me I found Jacob's anxiety and Briana's petty anger particularly relatable - and watching them get to know each other slowly by letter was so gratifying. The dialogue was great, the relationships were realistic (especially Jacob's relationship with his sisters and the relationship between Benny and Briana), it moved quick but not so quick that their relationship felt rushed. And I absolutely love Briana's ice breaker questions.

I'm giving Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez 4.75 stars out of 5 with a spice rating of 1.25. I really enjoyed it, I think it is my favorite of the Part of Your World series, and I really hope that we get another one after Just for the Summer.

My favorite quotes:

"Wouldn't it be amazing to live like that, to not carry that burden around with you. To not feel constantly overwhelmed and over stimulated, and second guess every little thing."

"I was two seconds away from taking my hoops out."
