Ingredients

  • 2 oz. brandy (like Cognac or Armagnac)

  • 1 oz. Cointreau

  • 3/4 oz. lemon juice

  • Superfine sugar (optional)

  • Orange or lemon twist (optional)

  • Lemon wedge (optional)

Directions

  1. If you are putting sugar on the rim, pour sugar into saucer. This is optional. You may feel like Kat does in the book: "Sugar on cocktail rims is stupid." Run lemon wedge around the rim of your cocktail glass. Dip the rim of the glass into the sugar and place the glass into the refrigerator to chill until needed.

  2. Measure your brandy, Cointreau, and lemon juice into the cocktail shaker, then fill shaker with ice.

  3. Shake well for about 10 seconds.

  4. Using strainer, pour into your prepared glass.

  5. Garnish with a lemon or orange twist, if you're feeling fancy.
