Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas

The third novel in the Sarah J Maas' Throne of Glass series, Heir of Fire continues to follow the path of Celaena Sardothien. At the end of the last book, she was sent to Wendlyn to carry out some execution orders for the King of Adarlan, we pick up again once she is in Wendlyn and struggling. This book deals with bullying, emotional and physical abuse, genocide, death, suicidal thoughts, slavery, torture, violence, grief, blood, death of parents, murder, injury by fire, colonization, war, and injury detail. This is my review of Heir of Fire, however, we also have a page summarizing each of the earlier books in the series, with spoiler free study guides if you need to catch up real quick before continuing Celaena's journey. Please, check out our Throne of Glass summary page.

Celaena Sardothien has been sent to Wendlyn by the King of Adarlan in order to kill the royal family of Wendlyn, to help smooth the way for Adarlan to conquer Wendlyn. But Celaena has no intention of following that order. There is a new danger on the horizon, and in order to stand in front of it and take it down, Celaena is going to have to face something even scarier first - her past. Can she defeat her inner demons and face the destiny waiting for her?

OH-KAY GUYS! Now we are getting there. I can feel this series about to kick it up a notch and I am excited. I have enjoyed the books so far, but I haven't thought they were anything particularly special, despite this series being a favorite of so many people. But this feels like it is the turning point. We've got new characters: all a little snarky, all very relatable in different ways, all on their own paths. Love that. We've got our main character finally facing her trauma instead of putting her head in the sand. Listen, everyone has their own journey to make but I think it's about time. We've got new places with new lore and it feels like even more is coming. Ugh, I can't wait. I did really like this book, but more than that, it feels like a bridge to books I'm going to love. Bring them on!

I'm giving Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas 4.25 stars out of 5. It was good, the best in the series so far, and man am I ready for the next one. We are officially halfway through the series, and I'll be starting Queen of Shadows soon, so check back to follow my own journey through the Throne of Glass series.

Pairs well with blackberry pie and taking a dip in a mountain lake.
