Fearful by Lauren Roberts
The last installment in Lauren Roberts' Powerless series, Fearful was released in September of 2025. Everything Kitt has done up until this point was to make his father proud. But now, faced with what he realizes was his father's lackluster dream that Kitt believes lacks ambition, he is about to leave his father's memory in the dust. He will be remembered by history as his father is just a speck in the air, an inconsequential name on a page. Not that Kitt will be around to appreciate it. He knows he's dying. He's begun to see Death herself. But that doesn't matter because everything he has done has been for his brother.
I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this review. Nothing happens in this book. It does nothing to further your understanding of Kitt or the decisions he made in Fearless. And the ending is just sad. Not in a way that still leaves you thinking - yeah, that was worth it. In a way that leaves you thinking - huh, why did I bother? A bunch of questions are brought up in this book that are never answered and the relationship between Lenny and Blair is explored some, but not nearly as much as I would have preferred. All in all, it was incredibly unsatisfying.
I'm giving Fearful by Lauren Roberts 2 stars out of 5. It appears that the author may be setting herself up for a spin off series at the end of this novella, if so I won't be reading it.
